Community Service Projects 2008 - 09

COMMUNITY SERVICE:
PROJECTS ON ENVIRONMENT:

  • Observational visit at Rotaract-Interact Forest and School premises of Mangal Higher Secondary School, Kirtipur Interacts also helped Rotaracts to clear the bush and dig hole for plantation. (27th June) 
  • Tree Plantation at Rotaract-Interact Forest and Premises of Mangal School jointly with Interacts. Dignitaries Present in the program were DGE Rtn. Ratna Man Shakya, Israeli Ambassador HE Mr.Dan Stav, Rtn. Dr. Chandra Lekha Tuladhar, Past Presidents Bhawana , Manjusha and Prashanna along with School Family.Trees were provided by ICIMOD, Godawari.100 saplings were provided by ICIMOD and 50 fruit trees were provided by Parent Rotary. The project was appreciated by the guest and also assisted in plantation. (28th June)
  • Waste Paper Collection (10 sacks) for the purpose of making Briquette (Alternative Energy) from local dwellers at Ramkot village with Jayanti Yuva Club, Koyosin Karate Dozo-Danda Pauwa and Mr. and Ms. Teen Participants.
  • Waste Paper Collection (10 sacks) for the purpose of making Briquette (Alternative Energy) from local dwellers at Naikap jointly with Naikap Yuwa Club. (13th Sept)

PROJECTS ON HEALTH:
(Sanitation Project):

  • Field visit of the Toilet Complex being constructed at Sanchetana Primary School, Dobhighat was done by the Rotracts and School Family.(17th June)
  • Toilet Complex handed over to Sanchetana Primary School, Dhobighat by Special Guest of the Program WCS chairman Rtn. Shoji Azuma Rotary Club of Kamigari RI District 2680, Japan.(29th June)
  • Toilet complex, Ground water source (tube well) was constructed and handed over by the club to Necosera Village Community & Himalaya Primary School at Thimi on 15th October, The project was done with the helping hand of Rtn. Eileen & John Heasly, Rtn Dr. Chandra Lekha Tuladhar, Parent Rotary Club along with ENPHO. Chief Guest: DG Rtn. Dr. Tika Man Vaidya
  • Cleaning of the Mechikali School in Slum area of Bagmati Region was done with the Internship students where whole classroom was cleaned along with fencing the School premises. (8th March)
  • Health and Hygiene program was conducted in School of Slum Area along with Internship where Bathing, nail cutting was done of the students over there. (3th March)

(Water Management project):
(Clean Drinking Water Project):
Location: Bagmati River Side Slum Area
 

  • Survey and Data Collection on Drinking water facility and cleanliness of drinking water at the Residence. Sample testing of water from three main sources was done which showed facial contamination of the water with in 48 hours of test in Laboratory of ENPHO.(18th Aug) 
  • Basic and cost efficient and immediate solution SODIS method was advocated. (19th Aug) 
  • Plastic Bottles collection for SODIS was done from various Party palace, houses, offices, and community.Plastic Bottle collected for SODIS Water Purification Method, from various hotels and offices. - 600 Bottles (31st Aug) - 50 Bottles from various shops, offices in Buddhanagar. (3rd Sept) - 300 Bottles from Naikap jointly with Naikap Yuwa Club. (13th Sept)
  • Field visit of TriChandra College was done with Rtn.Dr Chandra Lekha Ma'am for the visit of site regarding Rain Water Harvesting Project, on 17th October.
  • Training on SODIS method of purification of water was provided to the community of Bagmati Riverside Slum Area which was considered to be suitable for the facial contaminated water purification. - 1000 water bottles were donated to all families (300 families) with the purification manual and encourage them for daily use after SODIS of 8 hours daily. 4th October
  • Club Donated 10 Ceramic filters to the families of Bagmati Riverside Slum Area; dignitaries present in the program were Rtn. Dr. Chandra Lekha Tuladhar, Rtn. Eileen and John Heasly and ENPHO Head Mr. Rajesh Adhikari. (26th Oct.)
  • Survey was made regarding the functioning of the donated SBL filters among the familes of the Slum Area. (20th Dec.) - Marking Water Week-2009 (18th -23rd) March:
  • Club supported the program and assisted the program organized by WECS, IHP (UNESCO), and SOHAM –Nepal.

(Nutrition Supplement Project):

  • Feeding Program (Mid Day Meal) was conducted for all the 70 children of Moti Binayak School and also taught them how to eat in hygienic way. Food items were egg, green vegetable, soyabean soup, cucumber, and beaten rice. (10th Sept) 
  • 70 Children of Motibinayak School were taught about the Cleanliness and Sanitation, along with the nutrition provided by the Hygienic Food. They were taught how to wash hands before and after meal, before and after toilet. (10th Sept) 
  • Mid day meal was provided to children residing at Missionary of Charity, Foods provided by Rtn. Dr. Chandra Lekha Tuladhar and Fruits by Rtn. Eileen and President Amod. (25th October) 
  • Health Camp was organized at Lele jointly with parent Rotary Club. Free Dental Check up and Vision Screening was done to the Local peoples of Lele. (28th June). The program was followed by fellowship lunch with the Rotarians.
  • Feeding Program was organized with the Ace College Internship students in the School of Bagmati Slum Area. The program benefitted 45 students of School. (8th March)

SERVING TO SENIOR CITIZEN / DISABLED PERSONS:

  • Concerning the elderly people of Pashupati Bridha Ashram, Interaction & Cultural program conducted jointly with BSW students of St. Xavier’s College. Artists present: Comedian Narad Khatiwada, Prakash Ojha, Prakash Poudel, and other artist from different TV Serials.(30th Aug)

(Cerebral Palsy):

  • Visit to Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Office was made with the Rotarians of Balaju and Kathmandu Mid-Town at Babarmahal where Mr. Batuk showed various cases and Reliable Wheel Chairs used by them.(15th July)
  • 24 Wheel Chairs donated to the children suffering from Cerebral Palsy along with Rotary club of Kathmandu West and Fidalgo Island Rotary (Washington) USA, RI District 5050 in presence of Rtn. Dr. Chandra Lekha Tuladhar and PDG of RI District 5050. (24th Sept) At that time Case study field visit of Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Centre was made to the 5 Rotarians from USA including PDG of RI District 5050

(Leprosy Patients): 

  • 12 Wheel chairs donated to the Leprosy Suffering Patients of Shanti Shewa Griha along with Rotary club of Kathmandu West and Fidalgo Island Rotary (Washington) USA, RI District 5050 in presence of Rtn. Dr. Chandra Lekha Tuladhar and PDG of RI District 5050. (23rd Sept) 
  • Visit of Shanti Sewa Griha was done with Rtn. Eileen and other International Guests where supervision was done of the Leprosy Clinic, Toilet and Bio Sand Filters. The Toilet for further possible improvements and Clinic were built by help of Rtn. Eileen previously. (25th Oct.) 
  • Visit of Leprosy patient Care Centre Shanti Shewa Griha was done with the Internship students and showed them the new Building of the Centre where it is being shifted. They were also made to visit the Cottage Industry run by the Patients. (9th March) 
  • (20th Dec.): 16 desks and benches provided by Sanchetana Primary School were donated to Mechi Mahakali School of Bagmati Slum Area for the development of the school. Rotaracts show their enthusiasm to paint the desks and benches.
  • Donated stationary items and other soft dolls collected from Nirnaya Educational Tour in Pokhara by Nirnaya and Rtr. Sagar to the children in various communities in Pokhara. Rotaracts Club of Kathmandu Mid-Town and Pokhara Mid-Town organized program jointly. (19th Aug) 
  • Library setup was done along with donation of books at Motibinyak School, to the Principal through the hand of Rotary and Rotaract President of Kathmandu Mid-Town along with Distribution of toys to the school students (10th Sept)
  • Educational Tour Concert was conducted jointly with Rotaract Club of Damauli headed by Club Goodwill Ambassador Nirnaya Shrestha at Damauli with the collection of educational materials for the needy children of various parts of Nepal and distributed to them. Participation and Dances were performed by various schools of Damauli. (21st Nov.)
  • Home for conflict affected and disabled children was visited by the members in Lamjung and donated Stationeries to the organization.(18th Oct)
  • Club donated hand knitted Woolen caps to all the children residing at the Missionaries of Charity provided to the club by our Mentor Rtn. Dr. Lekha Maam. (25th Oct)
  • (16th Dec.): Observation visit of Slum Area was made regarding construction and maintenance of classroom & toilet & Safety Tank of Mechi Kali School at Bagmati Slum Area along with Mentor/Advisor Rtn. Dr. Chandra Lekha Ma'am.

(Muthidan Program):

  • Collection of 111 K.G Rice and cash Rs. 2203 at Ramkot village (12th July)
  • Collection of 2 sacks (50kg) of Rice and cash Rs.453 at Paanga, Kirtipur jointly with Interacts of Ktm Mid-Town/Kirtipur.(13th Sept)
  • Collection of 81kg of Rice at Naikap jointly with Naikap Yuwa Club.(13th Sept)
  • Collection of 80KG Rice and cash Rs. 1215 at Kirtipur Community jointly with Interact of Kathmandu Mid-Town.(13th Sept)
  • Muthidan Programme was conducted at Dhobigath around Sanchatena Primary School and 80kg of ration was collected on 16th October.

(Vison Screening):

  • 135 students screened of Shree Ratna Rajya Secondary School, Ramkot.(22nd July)
  • 76 students screened at Shree Azad Primary School, Bhotebahal.(29th Aug)
  • 35 children screened at Buddhist Baal Griha jointly with all clubs of Zone 5.(8th Sept)

Stationary items were donated to the students over there in school of Slum Area by the Internship Students to the children of poor families under the supervision of the Club. (8th March) Cupboard and rags for keeping shoes and books were donated together with the internship Students in the School of Bagmati Slum Area. The Cupboards were painted by the Internship students. (9th March)

Visited Karunalaya (old age home) with DRR Rajan Piya, ADS Deepak Shrestha along with Rotaracts of Chitwan at Devghat (23rd Sept)
